The coaches’ perspective regarding the Italy v Uruguay match planned for June 7th at the Allianz Riviera

The Italy v Uruguay game is getting closer! A friendly luncheon was organised on Thursday May 18th at the Allianz Riviera in the presence of:

• José Cobos – Deputy Mayor of Nice, in charge of sports events

• Cécilia Ibarra – Vice-Consul of Uruguay in Monaco

• Raffaele De Benedictis – Consul General for Italy in Nice

• Patrick Florence, Managing Director, Allianz Riviera

• Stefano Pucci, Manager, San Marco Sports Events

The coaches from Italy’s and Uruguay’s team have issued a statement about the game that will put two of the most titled teams in football history face to face. Indeed, the Squadra Azzurra boasts 4 World Champion titles, 1 European Champion title and an Olympic gold medal; for its part, the Celeste has 2 World Champion titles and has won the Copa America 15 times, as well as 2 Olympic gold medals.

Italy’s coach Giam Piero Ventura said that ”it will be a pleasant match, for the pitch will be hosting two sports academies that have shaped the history of this sport. Uruguay has players like Cavani and Suarez, strikers for PSG Paris and Barcelona – so we’re talking about hugely valuable professionals. As I have said before, to confront this level of player will be an opportunity for us to understand our potential.” (...) "I’m convinced that the Italy v Uruguay game will be a tremendous show and I expect to see the kind of audience we get for major events.”

While Cavani is confirmed, Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez explains, "Over the past few years, we have played against Italy in Brazil for the Confederation Cup, and during the World Cup where we won. So this is the kind of match which is highly motivating to us."
